Χασκάσιν, Αφιόνιν, Παπαρούνα, Παπαρούνα η σκληρότριχη
Etymology of Papaver setigerum: The genus name, "Papaver", probably derives from Vulgar Latin "papavum", which is perhaps a reduplicated form of the imitative root "pap-", meaning "to swell", alluding to the swelling of the seedpod during maturity. "Setigerum" derives from the Latin "saetiger", meaning "bristly" for the short bristle on the top of the lobes of its leaves.
Eight Papaver kinds (7 species and 1 subspecies) have been identified in the Cypriot habitat so far.
Papaver setigerum may exist in the Troodos Mountains range, the surrounding mountains and the Kerynia region, but it is in fact an uncommon plant to encounter. It appears at an altitude between 300-1225 metres. Papaver setigerum's flowering period usually begins in April and ends in June.
Papaver setigerums can be seen by the torrent of Kato Platres (Lemesos).
