Λύθρο το βουρλοειδές
Etymology of Lythrum junceum: The name of the genus, "Lythrum", derives from the Ancient Greek "λύθρον" which means "blood curdled and mixed with dust and sweat, blood mud, or blood in general", referring to the color of its flowers. Latin "junceum" means "rush", referring to its favorite habitat.
There are three kinds (species) of Lythrum appearing in Cyprus, growing without human intervention in nature.
Lythrum junceum is a perennial herb, very uncommon in Cyprus, even though it is said to appear in all the districts of the island with a reach of up to 35-40cm high. It grows near streams and wet areas in general, between an altitude of 0–1675 metres. Its flowering period is between March and September. The flowers are grown across the plant's petioles, not only at the top.
