Thymelaea comes from Greek “thymos” (thyme) and “elaea” (olive) for its thyme-like foliage and olive-like flower. “Hirsuta” in Latin means “rough”. It is a toxic, xerophytic plant with a root system going as deep as 3.5 metres.
