Etymology of Fumana arabica: The name of the genus, "Fumana", derives from the Latin "fumus", meaning "smoke", hence fumana is "smokey", referring to the color of its foliage. The epithet "arabica" refers to the region where it was believed to originate from.

There are three Fumana kinds (all species) in the Cypriot habitat.

Fumana arabica is the most common species of the Fumana genus in Cyprus. It is said to exist in all the regions of Cyprus except for the one of the Akamas peninsula, at an altitude of up to 1150 metres. It usually blooms from February until May.

How to identify Fumana arabica:

Its flowers are solitary, and their petals range from 8-15 mm long. On the contrary, the other two species have smaller flowers, with petals up to 8 mm long.
