Αρκοφκιολέττα, Βιολέτα η εύοσμη
Etymology of Viola odorata: The name of the genus, "Viola", is the classical Latin name for this genus. The epithet "odorata" is also Latin and means "fragrant", a reference to its flowers' scent.
There are 7 Viola taxa found in Cyprus (all species), growing outside of gardens in Cypriot nature.
This Viola of the picture is supposed to exist only in the Troodos region but I have found it also in Episkopi, Limassol. It is nevertheless an uncommon Cypriot plant to encounter in Cyprus. It primarily grows on woodland edges and it is encountered at an altitude of about (50) 450–1075 metres. Its flowering period is from February until April.
