Λινάρι, Λίνον το διετές
Etymology of Linum bienne: The name of the genus, "Linum", derives from the Ancient Greek "λίνον" [linon], for "flax", which later became "linum" in Latin and then "linen" in English. The epithet "bienne" derives from the Latin ''biennium'', meaning "biennial", referring to Linum's lifetime.
Nine Linum kinds (8 species and one subspecies) are considered to exist in Cyprus, growing in nature without human intervention.
Linum bienne is encountered all around the island, but in general, it is hard to notice these tiny Linum flowers, especially taking into consideration that they do grow in colonies. In Cyprus, the plant primarily grows in dry grassland and scrubby grassland at an altitude of up to 1225 metres. It can be seen flowered during many months of the year, from January until June.
