There are 8 Hypericum species in Cyprus. Hypericum perforatum subsp. veronense is a species encountered at medium to high altitudes, and more specifically from 600-1525 metres. That means it grows at the Troodos and Pentadactylos mountains and their foothills, as well as in the Akamas region. It distinguishes from the rest as its leaves are sessile or subsessile, with margin plane. Also, it bears ascending inflorescence branches. It is similar to Hypericum confertum subsp. stenobotrys but the latter has no branches.
