Κολχικό του τροόδους
The name of the genus derives from "Κολχίς" (Kolchis), the Ancient Greek name for the region of Kolchida in modern Georgia. "Troodi" derives from the mountains of Troodos.
Colchicum troodi is an indigenous and endemic plant of Cyprus, which grows in several regions, excluding the vast Mesaoria region. It appears on igneous or calcareous land, stony slopes, open pine forests, and up to the highest altitude of mount Olympos. Its flowering period is from September until November.
How to identify Colchicum troodi:
Leaves appearing after anthesis (for the other two species they appear simultaneously) and they are strap-shaped. The perianth-segments are 25-45 x 5-12 mm, white or pale pink.
