Scutellaria sibthorpii is encountered only in northern Cyprus and Scutellaria cypria subspecies cypria only in southern-central Cyprus. Hence, it could only be confused with Scutellaria cypria subsp. elatior. Subspecies elatior has its stems pubescent with recurved, crispate hairs, and its leaves are 2-3.5 cm long, and densely pubescent. Subspecies cypria has its stems villose with long, patent hairs, and its leaves are small, less than 2 cm long, villose. In a few words, Scutellaria cypria subspecies cypria is a "hairy" plant with leaves less than 2 cm long.
