Etymology of Parentucellia latifolia subspecies latifolia: The genus was named for Pope Nicholas V (1397-1455), whose surname was Parentucelli. Latin "latifolia" means "with broad leaf", from the female "lata", meaning "broad, wide" and ''folia", meaning "leaf".

Parentucellia is a small genus of flowering plants in the family Orobanchaceae containing about four species. They are known generally as glandweeds. There are three Parentucellia kinds growing without human intervention in Cypriot nature, one species and two subspecies.

Parentucellia latifolia subsp. latifolia is a locally common plant in Cyprus. It primarily grows on uncultivated grassland and phrygana. Its flowering period is from March to May.
