Etymology of Parentucellia latifolia subspecies flaviflora: The genus was named for Pope Nicholas V (1397-1455), whose surname was Parentucelli. Latin "latifolia" means "with broad leaf", from female "lata", meaning "broad, wide" and ''folia", meaning "leaf". "Flaviflora" is Latin and it means "with yellow flowers", from "flava", meaning "yellow" and "flos", meaning ''flower".
Parentucellia is a small genus of flowering plants in the family Orobanchaceae containing about four species. They are known generally as glandweeds. There are three Parentucellia kinds growing without human intervention in Cypriot nature, one species and two subspecies.
Parentucellia latifolia subspecies flaviflora is a locally common plant in Cyprus. It is encountered all-around Cyprus except for the Kerynia region. It primarily grows on uncultivated grassland. Its flowering period is from March to May.
