Hymenocarpus circinnatus

Υμενόκαρπος ο κεκλιμένος

Etymology of Hymenocarpus circinnatus: The name of the genus derives from Ancient Greek "ὑμήν" [ymin], meaning "hymen", and "καρπός" [karpos], meaning "fruit", hence "fruit bearing a hymen", which refers to the fruits that are enclosed in a membrane-like covering. Latin "circinnatus" is translated as "curved, spiral" for its curved pods.

This is the one and only Hymenocarpus taxon encountered in the wild Cypriot habitat.

Hymenocarpus circinnatus may not be that common but it is encountered all around Cyprus up to an altitude of 1150 metres; it is more popular in the Limassol district. Its flowering period is between February and June.
