Etymology of Scabiosa argentea: "Scabiosa", the name of the genus derives from Medieval Latin "scabiosus", meaning "scabious", alluding to the plant’s supposed ability to cure cutaneous diseases and as remedies for relief from scabies. The epithet "argentea" is Latin and it means "silver".

There are five Scabiosa kinds/species in the Cypriot habitat.

Indigenous but non-endemic Scabiosa argentea is an endangered species of the Cypriot habitat. Scabiosa argentea is a very rare plant encountered at an altitude between 600-1100 metres in the Troodos Mountains range and surrounding lower mountains. It is a perennial and herbaceous plant reaching up to 1m high. It primarily grows on limestone ground, dry hillsides, vineyards' limits and shrublands. Its flowering period is between June and September.

The specimen of the picture was photographed on a dry, limestone roadside in Sylikou village (Limassol district) at an altitude of approximately 700 metres.
