Paronychia argentea

Παρονύχια η ασημένια

Etymology of Paronychia argentea: "Paronychia" means "whitlow" (inflammation around the cuticles) and it comes from the Greek "παρά" [para], meaning "next" and "ὄνυξ" [onyx], because some species were believed to cure or mitigate tissue inflammations around fingernails and toenails. "Argentea" in Latin means "silver", referring to the colour of the leaves of the species (an unfortunate onomatology).

There are three Paronychia species in Cyprus.

Paronychia argentea can be found all-around Cyprus, at an altitude of up to 1400 metres. Its long flowering period is between December and July.
