Cylindropuntia imbricata

Κυλινδροπούντια η φέρουσα επικαλυπτόμενες κλίμακες

Etymology of Cylindropuntia imbricata: The name of the genus comes from the Ancient Greek "κύλινδρος" [kylindros], meaning "cylinder" and the genus name "Opuntia", the genus from which this segregate was removed, hence, "cylindrical opuntia", which is a reference to the shape of its leaves. The species name "imbricata" is derived from the Latin word "imbricatus," meaning "overlapping like tiles or shingles", referring to the arrangement of the cactus's scales. Therefore, the etymology of Cylindropuntia imbricata can be interpreted as "cylinder-shaped Opuntia with overlapping scales."

This is the one and only Cylindropuntia taxa which can be found in the wild Cypriot nature.

Cylindropuntia imbricata under normal circumstances is a plant which can be seen in gardens, but in some very rare cases, it can be seen growing away from inhabited areas.
