Etymology of Reseda lutea: The name of the genus, "Reseda", derives from the Latin prefix "re-" meaning "again" and the verb "sedo", meaning "to calm down, allay", referring to the healing properties of the plant. Latin "lutea" means "yellow", referring to the color of the species's flowers.

There are at least 5 Reseda species/taxa in the wild habitat of Cyprus.

Lutea is the most popular Reseda species that exists in Cyprus. Reseda lutea can be encountered all around Cyprus up to a maximum altitude of 1550 metres. It mostly grows on roadsides and hillsides. It has an extended flowering period, between February and September.
