Καψέλλα ο ποιμενόσακος, Πουντζίν του βοσκού, Αγριοκαρδαμούδα, Καψέλλα
"Capsella" is Latin and it means "small box", referring to the fruit's resemblance to a medieval wallet. Its Latin epithet "bursa-pastoris", is translated as "shepherd's purse", because of its triangular flat fruits, which are purse-like.
Capsella bursa-pastoris is the only Capsella species that is encountered in the wild Cypriot habitat.
This is an annual plant growing all around Cyprus, up to 50 cm. It grows at an altitude of up to 1525 metres. Capsella bursa-pastoris primarily grows in cultivated fields and gardens. Its long flowering period starts (in Cyprus) in January and ends in July, as it heavily depends on the existence of water.
