Cynoglossum creticum

Κυνόγλωσσο το κρητικό

Etymology of Cynoglossum creticum: The name of the genus, "Cynoglossum", derives from the Ancient Greek nouns "κύων" [kyon] meaning "dog", in possessive case "κυνός" [kynos] + "γλῶσσα" [glossa], meaning "tongue", hence "dog's tongue" referring to the roughness of the leaf. Its epithet "creticum" refers to Crete, the region where it was initially recorded.

There are three Cynoglossum taxa in the wild Cypriot habitat.

Cynoglossum creticum, even though it is found all around the island, it is an uncommon plant in Cyprus. It appears up to an altitude of 1375 metres. Its flowering period is between February and June.
