Σενέκιο το γλαύκο υποείδος το κύπριο
Etymology of Senecio glaucus subspecies cyprius: "Senecio" derives from Latin "senex", meaning "old/aged person", referring to the hairs attached to the ovary to aid dispersal (of the pappus) that resemble the white beard of an aged man. The epithet "glaucus" comes from the Ancient Greek "γλαυκός" [glafkos] and means "open sky blue color", referring to the color of the plant. The subspecies name "cyprius", refers to Cyprus, as it is an endemic plant of Cyprus.
There are three Senecio kinds in the wild Cypriot habitat, one species and two other subspecies.
Senecio glaucus subspecies cyprius is a very uncommon plant in Cyprus, encountered only in western Cyprus (Paphos), as well as the northwestern and northeastern occupied parts of Cyprus, close or very close to the sea (almost zero altitudes). Its flowering period is between January and March.
