Πικρίδα η ολιγανθής
Etymology of Picris pauciflora: "Picris" is Ancient Greek from "πικρός'' [pikros] meaning "bitter" in reference to the bitter taste of some species in the genus. Latin "pauca" is the female for "few" and "flora" means "flower", suggesting it produces few flowers.
Three species of the genus Picris are met in Cyprus.
Picris pauciflora grows exclusively in western mountainous Cyprus, between an altitude of 400-1375 metres. Its flowering period is between May and July.
It differs from "Picris cyprica" because its flowers are larger. Compared to rhagadioloides, pauciflora has fewer, larger flowers and fewer branching stems.
