Λαουναέα η εύθραυστη υποείδος η εύθραυστη
Etymology of Launaea fragilis subsp. fragilis: The name of the genus, "Launaea'', is a tribute to Jean Claude Mien Mordant de Launay (1750-1816), French lawyer, naturalist and librarian at the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle and the Musée d'Histoire Naturelle in Le Havre, author of "Herbier général de l'amateur ". The Latin name of the species "fragilis" means "fragile, easily broken", due to the harsh conditions it has to endure on the sea coasts that damage its flowers.
This is the one and only Launaea taxa that is found in Cypriot nature.
Launaea fragilis subsp. fragilis is a plant growing exclusively on the coasts. It is found in central-southern, southeastern, north-eastern, and northwestern Cyprus. Its flowering period is between March and May.
