Λακτούκη η κυπριακή
Etymology of Lactuca cyprica: ''Lactuca'' is derived from the Latin verb ''lacto'', meaning "contain milk", hence "lactuca" is a "milky plant", referring to the white, milky juice of the root and stems of the plant. "Cyprica" is also Latin meaning "cypriot" as it is a Cyprus endemic plant.
Seven Lactuca species exist in the Cypriot habitat.
Lactuca cyprica in Cyprus exists only in the Troodos Mountains range and the surrounding mountains, at an altitude between 750–1950. The specimen of the photographs was found at the top, of Mount Olympos (1950 metres). It is a biennial, erect herb. Lactuca cyprica's flowering period is from May until July (even from April depending on the weather conditions).
