Ιουρινέα η κυπρία
Etymology of Jurinea cypria: The genus's name "Jurinea'' is attributed either to Louis Jurine (1751-1819), Swiss physician and zoologist or to his son André Jurine (1780-1804), botanist. It was given the epithet "cypria" as it was initially recorded in Cyprus.
Jurinea cypria is the only Jurinea species encountered in the Cypriot habitat. It is an indigenous, near-endemic plant (it has been initially found in Cyprus, hence "cypria", but later in Turkey as well).
Jurinea cypria is an uncommon plant in Cyprus. It can be seen in the Troodos Mountains Range and surrounding mountains at an altitude of 425–1725 metres. It primarily grows on rocky hillsides and roadsides. Its flowering period is between June and September. The plants in the pictures were photographed on a rocky hillside in Kato Platres (Lemesos) at an altitude of approximately 1000 metres.
