Helichrysum stoechas subsp. barrelieri

Helichrysum stoechas subsp. barrelieri
Αθάνατο, Λουλούδι της Παναγίας, Κλάματα της Παναγίας, Αμάραντο
There are three Helichrysum species in the Cypriot nature and this is one of them, which in fact is the most common. It is easy to identify it from its thin, long leaves that differ from the other two species, the italicum which has very short leaves and the luteoalbum that has broad leaves and whiter floewrs. Helichrysum stoechas subsp. barrelieri grows at an altitude of up to 1000 metres and it blooms for several months. Actually you can keep it in a vase without water for months, that’s why in Cyprus it is called “αθάνατο”, meaning “immortal”.
