Άγρια μαργαρίτα, Άνθεμις η παλαιστινιακή
Etymology of Anthemis palaestina: Named "Anthemis" after the ancient Greeks and Romans. "Palaestina" reveals its place of origin or where it was initially discovered (Palestine).
There are at least 10 Anthemis species and subspecies in the wild Cypriot habitat.
Anthemis palaestina is encountered all around Cyprus except for the Karpasia and the Kerynia regions, at an altitude of up to 1525 metres. It blooms from March until June.
How to recognise Anthemis palaestina:
Its phyllaries appear with a pale, hyaline or stramineous margin; the tube of disk-florets is not abruptly dilated above the middle; the capitula are radiate; the receptacular scales are cartilaginous, obcuneate; the achenes are more or less compressed dorsoventrally, and most importantly, the receptacular scales are cuspidate or mucronate; the achenes are 2.5-3 mm long, often (but not always) distinctly 8-10-ribbed on either face.
