Ορνιθόγαλο της Ναρμπόν (ναρβονικής γαλατείας)
Etymology of Ornithogalum narborense: Ancient Greek "ὀρνιθόγαλον" [ornithogalon] derives from "ὄρνιθος + γάλα" [οrnithos + gala] and literally means "hen's milk" which is an expression for the "abundance, richness, splendid", referring to the abundance/splendidness of flowers of the initially named Ornithogalum species (if that initial plant was one or more). "Narborense" is Latin and it means "from Narbonne" of France, where it was initially recorded.
Six Ornithogalum species have so far been identified in the Cypriot habitat, of which one grows exclusively in occupied Cyprus.
Ornithogalum narborense is encountered all around Cyprus at an altitude of up to 1375 metres. It is the tallest of all the six ornithogalum species that exist in Cyprus. Ornithogalum narborense's flowering period is only March and April. The specimens in the photos were photographed in Souni village, Limassol, and Polemi village, Pafos.
