Βουρτουλίτζιν, Βουρτουλισσιά, Ίριδα η γερμανική
Etymology of Iris germanica: In Ancient Greek mythology, "Iris" was the goddess of rainbows. The plant was named either after her or after the word "ἶρις" [iris], meaning "rainbow", because of its flowers' many different colour varieties. The epithet "germanica" refers to Germany where it most likely was initially recorded.
There are two Iris naturalized species in Cypriot nature.
Iris germanica is found primarily in the Limassol and Kyrenia districts. Its flowering period is between April and June.
