Bellevalia trifoliata

Etymology of Bellevalia trifoliata: The genus name honours the French botanist Pierre Richer de Belleval (1564-1632). "Trifoliata" comes from Latin "tres+foliatus" which means "three-leafed".

There are only two Bellevalia species in Cyprus of the approximately 65 species found in the Mediterranean mainly and some in Central Asia. Bellevalia is a genus of plants in the family Asparagaceae, subfamily Scilloideae. It was first described as a genus in 1808.

Bellevalia trifoliata is a common plant in Cyprus. It is encountered in the entity of Cypriot nature at an altitude of up to 850 metres. Bellevalia trifoliata appears on stony slopes, uncultivated fields, boundaries of cultivated fields, and phrygana. Bellevalia trifoliata's flowering time is between February and April.
