Ανακάμπτις η αγία
Etymology of Anacamptis sancta: The genus's name "Anacamptis" derives from the Ancient Greek verb "ἀνακάμπτω" [anakámpto], which means "bend backwards" and refers to the pollinia of the orchid bending backwards.
There are 8 Anacamptis species and subspecies in the Cypriot habitat.
Anacamptis sancta is a very common plant in Cyprus nature. It is also called Anteriorchis sancta, Herorchis sancta and Orchis sancta. It is an indigenous, non-endemic plant, which is encountered at a low altitude of up to 175 metres, in the majority of Cyprus regions, except for the ones of Morfou and, of course, of Troodos (due to the altitude).
