Ανακάμπτις κολλίνα
Etymology of Anacamptis collina: The genus's name "Anacamptis" derives from the Ancient Greek verb "ἀνακάμπτω" [anakámpto], which means "bend backwards" and refers to the pollinia of the orchid bending backwards. Latin "collina" (from "collis", meaning "hill") pertains or relates to a hill, most likely referring to the habitat of this plant, as it often grows on rocky slopes of hills.
At least 8 Anacamptis species and subspecies are thought to exist in Cyprus's wild habitat.
Anacamptis collina is a perennial tuberous plant growing to 35 centimetres high, even though it is usually reaching 20-25 centimetres. Anacamptis collina is a very common plant in Southern Cyprus (it does not appear in the Morphou and Kyrenia regions or the Karpasia peninsula). It grows on grassy land, open forests, garrigue and phrygana, at an altitude of up to 375 metres. Anacamptis collina blooms between January and April.
