Etymology of Zosima absinthifolia: The genus name, "zosima" derives from Ancient Greek "ζώσιμη", which means "viable / the one which still has life to live". Female "absinthifolia" derives from Ancient Greek "ἀψίνθιον" [apsinthion], meaning "wormwood" and Latin "folium", meaning "leaf", hence the "wormwood-leaved".

It is the only Zosima species met in Cyprus and it is a plant unknown to Europe. It resembles in appearance to Dauca but Zosima has a broader, tender body. It is encountered at altitudes of 100-950 metres, blooming in March and April. It can reach up to 40-100 cm tall. It is also known by many other synonyms such as Heracleum absinthifolium.
