Torilis leptophylla

Τορίλις η λεπτόφυλλη

Etymology of Torilis leptophylla: The genus's name "Torilis" was used by Adanson in 1763. It derives from Latin "torus", meaning "a round, swelling, elevation; protuberance". "Leptophylla" derives from Greek from "λεπτός", meaning "thin" and "φύλλo" meaning "leaf", hence its the "thin-leaved" Torilis.

There are seven Torilis taxa in Cyprus.

Torilis leptophylla is a plant that you will hardly observe. This species exists all-around Cyprus at an altitude of up to 1150 metres. Its flowering period is between February and May.

How to identify Torilis Leptophylla:

Its umbels are distinctly pedunculate and the peduncle is usually more than 2 cm long.

Its umbels 2-3(-4)-rayed; the petals are small, not radiant, usually pink or purple or white tinged with these colours. If the plant you observe has not entirely white flowers, then it is either Torilis leptophylla or Torilis africana. In Torilis leptophylla the petals are whitish or tinged pink and in Torilis africana the petals are pink or purple.
