Opopanax hispidus

Οποπάναξ ο τριχωτός

Etymology of Opopanax hispidus: "Opopanax" derives from Ancient Greek "ὀποπάναξ", from the words "οπός", which means "juice" and "πάναξ", which means "panacea". "Hispidus'' is Latin and means "bristly, shaggy, hairy".

Opopanax hispidus is the one and only species of the genus that exists in the Cypriot habitat.

Opopanax hispidus is encountered in the majority of the Cypriot territory (except for the northwestern part), but it is not such a common plant as its expansion. It is a plant that can be encountered at an altitude between 100–1225 metres. It mostly grows on igneous or calcareous soil, garigue, rocky places, cultivated fields and roadsides. Its flowering period is between May and June.
