Κονβόλβουλος ο κοιλοσυριακός
Etymology of Convolvulus coelesyriacus: "Convolvulus" comes from the Latin verb "convolvo", which means "interweave" or "roll together, up or around; coil", because it binds itself and winds itself around the stems and leaves of everything in its path and if nothing is in its path, it winds around itself. Its epithet "coelesyriacus", derives from "Coele Syria", meaning "Hollow Syria" or "Cœlesyria", an ancient region of Syria in antiquity, between Libanus and Antilibanus according to Pliny, where it is considered to originate.
There have been at least 11 Convolvulus kinds (ten species and a hybrid) identified so far in Cyprus.
Convolvulus coelesyriacus is a relatively rare plant in Cypriot nature, especially in southern Cyprus. It is encountered in western, central-northern, and northern-eastern Cyprus. It is found up to a maximum altitude of 850 and it primarily grows on grassland. Its flowering period is between January and April.
Its corolla is 1.5-2.8 cm in diameter.
