Αρκοφκιολέττα, Βιολέτα η λευκή
Etymology of Viola alba: The name of the genus, "Viola", is the classical Latin name for this genus. The epithet "alba" is also Latin and means "white" because this species is also found with white color in other countries, but as remarked by Meikle back in 1977 infraspecific treatment is in need of clarification.
There are 7 Viola taxa found in Cyprus (all species), growing outside of gardens in Cypriot nature.
Viola alba is a very uncommon plant to encounter in Cyprus. It only grows near water sources in mountainous central Cyprus between an altitude of 600-1075 metres. Its flowering period is only around February and March.
