Λίνον το συμπαγές υποείδος το αιχμηρό
Etymology of Linum strictum subsp. spicatum: The name of the genus, "Linum", derives from the Ancient Greek "λίνον" [linon], for "flax", which later became "linum" in Latin and then "linen" in English. The name "strictum" comes from Latin and means "tightented, compressed", which is a reference to its flower which differs from most of the Linum species, as it is not wide open as those. "Spicatum" is also Latin and means "spiky'', a reference to its lanceolate bracts.
Nine Linum taxa (8 species and one subspecies) are considered to exist in Cyprus, growing in nature without human intervention.
Linum strictum subsp. spicatum is encountered all around the island (except in mountainous regions), yet it is an uncommon plant, and it appears up to a maximum altitude of 300 metres. It can be seen flowered between March and May
