Στάχυς ο κρητικός
Etymology of Stachys cretica: Stachys was named by Linnaeus in Species Plantarum in 1753. The name is derived from the Ancient Greek word "στάχυς" [stachys], meaning "an ear of grain", and refers to the fact that the inflorescence is often a spike. The epithet "cretica" refers to the region (Crete island) where it was initially recorded.
There are two Stachys kinds/species growing in the nature of Cyprus.
Stachys cretica is a perennial shrub up to one metre tall. It exists all around the island of Cyprus excluding the northern and northeastern regions. It primarily appears in phrygana, dry hillsides and roadsides. It grows up to an altitude of 1725 metres. Its flowering period is between April and July.
