Τριγωνέλλα η αιχμηρή
Etymology of Trigonella spicata: The name of the genus, "Trigonella", is a Latinized diminutive of the Ancient Greek word "τρίγωνον" [trigonon], which means "triangle", for "triangular", a reference to the appearance of the corolla of the flower. "Spicata" is Latin and means "spiky", a reference to the toothed leaflets of the species.
In Cyprus, it is believed to exist about 8 Trigonella taxa, of which surprisingly half of them grow exclusively in occupied northern Cyprus because it is a rare phenomenon to record a species in Cyprus that grows exclusively in the northern part of the island.
Trigonella spicata is an uncommon plant in Cyprus. It is encountered up to an altitude of 1225 metres and it's present mostly in central-southern, central-northern and northwestern Cyprus. Its flowering period is between March and June.
