Etymology of Sulla spinosissima: The name of the genus, "Sulla", comes from the Latin. "Spinosissima" is also Latin and means "the most spiny", referring to the spines on the fruits.
There is one and only Sulla taxa in the wild Cypriot habitat.
Sulla spinosissima, although it can be found all around the island up to a maximum altitude of 1375, it is an uncommon plant to encounter. It primarily grows in dry hillsides, open, shrubby vegetation, and rocky ground. Its flowering period is between February and April.
