Cynoglossum troodi

Κυνόγλωσσο το τροόδιο

Etymology of Cynoglossum troodi: The name of the genus, "Cynoglossum", derives from the Ancient Greek nouns "κύων" [kyon] meaning "dog", in possessive case "κυνός" [kynos] + "γλῶσσα" [glossa], meaning "tongue", hence "dog's tongue" referring to the roughness of the leaf. Its epithet "troodi" refers to the area that it exclusively grows, the Troodos Mountains range in Cyprus.

There are three Cynoglossum taxa in the wild Cypriot habitat.

Cynoglossum troodi is an indigenous, endemic plant of Cyprus. It is a rare and vulnerable plant, encountered only in the Troodos Mountains region at high altitudes, between 1525 metres up to the top of Mount Olympus (1950 metres). Its flowering period is between May and August.
