Λεγκούσια ο καθρέφτης της Αφροδίτης
Etymology of the name Legousia speculum-veneris: The name of the genus "Legousia" is a tribute to Béningne Le Gouz de Gerland (1695-1774), French scholar and philanthropist, patron of the arts and sciences. "Speculum" in Latin is translated as "mirror, looking-glass" and "veneris" means "of Aphrodite", literally "mirror of Aphrodite" in which beauty is reflected.
There are five Legousia species in Cyprus.
Legousia speculum-veneris is encountered all around Cyprus except in the Paralimni region but it is more popular in the Akamas region. It grows at an altitude of up to 1125. Legousia speculum-veneris is a rare plant with a short life. Its flowering period is between March and May.
